Notice that appeared on the church door today
In fact, the Mass was interrupted by Pelle and Mendes, who tried to stifle the Prayers of the Faithful – see Denied Sunday Mass Again.
Their action precipitated numerous letters from the community to Bishop Porteous, administering the archdiocese in Cardinal Pell’s absence
The following email was received on Friday night:
Subject [St Vincents Redfern] A SAD EVENING
FRIDAY NIGHT 9.30PM
I HAVE BEEN ADVISED BY CLESIO MENDES THIS PM THERE WOULD BE NO MASS IN OUR CHURCH THIS COMING SUNDAY. HE WILL POST A NOTICE ON THE CHURCH DOOR TO THIS EFFECT. HE INVITED ME AND TWO OTHER PARISHIONERS ONLY, TO ATTEND A MEETING CHAIRED BY FR JOHN USHER AT A TIME AND DATE HE WILL ADVISE.
2ND PHONE CALL FROM CLESIO 10 MINUTES LATER AFTER HANGING UP ADVISING ME HE WOULD OPEN THE CHURCH ON MONDAY MORNING AFTER MASS TO SETUP THE CHURCH FOR THE CHRISTMAS PARTY FOR THE POOR. I ADVISED HIM THERE WOULD BE NO ABLE BODIED PEOPLE TO HELP US ON MONDAY
A PHONE CALL FROM JOHN FORD ADVISING US HE HAD HEARD FROM CLESIO ADVISING HIM THAT THERE WOULD BE NO MASS OR ENTRANCE TO THE CHURCH ON SUNDAY. JOHN FORD HAS CONTACTED JOHN USHER ADVISING HIM OF THE IMPORTANCE OF OPENING THE CHURCH TO SET UP ON SUNDAY. JOHN USHER IS TO CONTACT PORTEOUS RE OUR DILEMMA.
WE WAIT FOR FROM NEWS FROM JOHN FORD.
IF WE ARE DENIED ENTRANCE TO OUR CHURCH ON SUNDAY FOR MASS OR TO SETUP FOR THE CHRISTMAS PARTY MIGHT I SUGGEST A SILENT PROTEST OUTSIDE THE CHURCH AT 10AM.
I WILL INFORM YOU OF ANY FURTHER CORRESPONDENCE FROM JOHN USHER RE STATE OF THINGS TO JOHN FORD.
IN SADNESS,

Subject [St Vincents Redfern] CONTINUING SAGA— SAT AM
CLESIO PHONED 9-45AM TODAY TO INFORM ME THERE HAD BEEN MANY COMPLAINTS MADE ABOUT NO ENTRY TO THE CHURCH ON SUNDAY {HE DIDNT SAY TO WHOM}
HE NOW INTENDS TO OPEN THE CHURCH AT 11AM SUNDAY.
ENQUIRED IF HE WOULD BE SAYING MASS- HIS REPLY WAS NO MASS YOU HAVE NO RESPECT FOR THE LITURGY.
SUGGEST WE MEET OUTSIDE THE CHURCH AS PLANNED AT 10AM TO AWAIT HIS ARRIVAL.
IN THE STRUGGLE,
KATE
The Christmas party typically attracts some 300 sharers, and Mendes was generously offering an hour or two to set up for it!
The community is getting sick of fighting this sort of garbage, and needs your support.
Please come and help us tomorrow morning!
