VATICAN – Japanese Bishops Meet Pope For Second Time In Five Months

By Gerard O’Connell, Special Correspondent in Rome

ROME (UCAN) — In an extraordinary move, the Japanese Bishops’ Conference sent a delegation last week to discuss with Pope Benedict XVI "the serious problem" they are having with the Neocatechumenal Way and its seminary in Takamatsu diocese.

The four prelates went to the Vatican to seek the pope’s understanding and intervention to help resolve the situation.

subject RE: World Youth Day threat?

Church Mouse,

Thank you for your email.

As you noted, the email seems to come from a purported follower of the Neocatechumenal Way. It contains sentiments that do not accord with those of the ordinary brothers and sisters of the Way.

I admired your passion and work for the Aboriginal People in Australia, but I think you are using your Church for Political reasons. The Church is not a Politcal platform nor a Political … Continue reading

Sorry Day

Sorry Day, 13 February 2008, was a day of great happiness and hope for our Aboriginal brothers and sisters. On that day our new government said sorry for many of the atrocities inflicted upon Aborigines by previous administrations.

Readers might be interested in Fr Frank Brennan’s piece Stolen Generations apology ‘about right’ or the item Speech gets standing ovation in Redfern in the Sydney Morning Herald.

It is hard to imagine what the Redfern Neocat clergy made of all this.

PM Kevin Rudd’s sorry speech

The text of Prime Minister Kevin Rudd’s speech to Parliament.

February 13, 2008 – 3:55PM

I move:

That today we honour the indigenous peoples of this land, the oldest continuing cultures in human history.

We reflect on their past mistreatment.

We reflect in particular on the mistreatment of those who were stolen generations – this blemished chapter in our nation’s history.

The time has now come for the nation to … Continue reading
