{"id":1643,"date":"2013-09-28T16:49:44","date_gmt":"2013-09-28T06:49:44","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/church-mouse.lanuera.com\/IV\/?p=1643"},"modified":"2023-05-03T00:04:18","modified_gmt":"2023-05-03T00:04:18","slug":"1643","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/church-mouse.net\/?p=1643","title":{"rendered":"The report &#8211; another view"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span class=\"dropcap\">T<\/span>he opinions expressed in the <a href=\"https:\/\/church-mouse.net\/?p=1640\">report<\/a> prepared by Fr Don Richardson and architect Harry Stephens of the Liturgy Office of the Catholic Archdiocese of Sydney are just that &#8211; the ideas of two people. The Chairman of the National Liturgical Architecture and Art Board has another take on some of the issues raised in the report, as the following comments indicate:<\/p>\n<div class=\"quote\">\n<p>\u2026 some basic considerations about the mural, altar and other liturgical items that seem to be under threat are:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Liturgical art and architecture norms notwithstanding, the cultural heritage context of the St Vincent\u2019s community, and especially its narrative since Fr Ted Kennedy commenced his prophetic ministry at Redfern, ought to be taken into account. Vatican documents on cultural heritage would support this.<\/li>\n<li>The recognition and value of enculturation in a Catholic community as mixed as St Vincent\u2019s, even if expressed in liturgical art and sacred furnishings that do not conform to \u2018mainstream\u2019 expectations and interpretation of liturgical norms.<\/li>\n<li>The consistent use of said items by the community until relatively recently; and the possibility of incorporating them in a redesigned setting.<\/li>\n<li>The symbolic value attached to the mural, in that it conveys more than the message of its words by signifying the hopes of Indigenous Catholics \u2013 and of many others in the Australian Catholic community &#8211; for the Church that \u2018Jesus wants us to become\u2019; moreover, Bl.
